The
Iris Family
The Iris
family are renowned for their great seasonal displays of flowers.
Our
range includes the true water irises - the Lousiana irises,
pseudoacorus, and laevigata iris.
As well we have the Japanese
Irises which prefer wet feet in their growing season and other plants
from the broader Iris family including woodland and walking iris
which are really woodland plants in their growing requirements.
Lousiana
Iris
These
are evergreen plants doing much of their growing through winter and
flowering in spring.
They need at least very wet feet, or being
submerged in water from a few centimeters to up to about 20cm deep.
Japanese
Iris
Are
winter deciduous and should dry out while dormant during
winter.
During spring, summer and autumn they thrive in a wet
environment producing massive flowers in late spring to early summer.
Laevigata
Are
also deciduous in winter but can be treated as a bog or water plant
all year round. This variegated form is a unique combination of cream
and green foliage and a purple flower.
Walking
Iris
Are woodland plants
that thrive in sheltered dappled shade with a rich organic soil.
Woodland Iris
(Iris Japonica)
These
two are dainty creeping plants with lacy flowers in ruffled white
with hints of yellow and mauve. They like dappled shade and are
undemanding as to soil.
