Woodland Plants
Gardeners
with shady conditions have the opportunity to use woodland plants to
great effect in their gardens.
The main
feature of the woodland garden environment is a canopy or overstory
of trees which shade the garden floor.
Ideally
these plants prefer shade and shelter with a cool rich soil with a
layer of leaf litter and organic composted mulch.
To create a
true woodlands garden all the niches should be filled, a canopy, a
mid story, shrubs, low growing perennials and ground covers.
Flowers,
foliage, colour and texture are all richly represented within the
woodlands community of plants. Some woodland plants are deciduous and
many have brilliant seasonal displays of flowers.
