Decorative gingers.

www.walliscreekwatergarden.com.au

Over years of collecting we have gotten together a group of plants in the ginger family that are easy to grow, beautiful and cold tolerant in areas with cold winters but warm to hot summers.

Generally plants in the ginger family prefer a rich organic soil, well mulched and supplied with water during the warmer months when they do their growing. Many of our decorative gingers are deciduous which protects them from cold winters. When they are dormant they require little or no watering. They like light to heavy shade.

The gingers are in the larger plant family Zingiberaceae.

Some of the gingers that appear here are also in our edible ginger group but they are so attractive they could not be left out.
